Landscaping Committee authorized by Board of Directors to investigate upgrade of landscaping for both the Oaks and Greens entryways. Website seeks volunteers for Landscaping Committee and word-of-mouth asking for volunteers. Obtain quotes from professional landscapers to get idea of costs involved.
10-18-2012
Board of Directors authorizes up to $1,000 in funds for volunteer workforce to perform landscaping upgrade. Volunteer workforce will allow community to have nicer upgrades of landscaping at the same cost as having it professionally done. Funds and volunteers will address landscaping for both Oaks and Greens.
10-19-2012
Begin plan of action. Initial plan is to work on the east and west sides first. Cleanup, replace foundation plants, re-use existing plants (Liriope). Complete west and east sides before beginning on median.
10-28-2012
Volunteers begin work on west side entryway. Cleanup, followed by planting variegated Liriope in semi-circle. By re-using the Liriope and splitting them it is expected that no new Liriope will need to be purchased.
10-30-2012
Volunteers begin to replace dead or missing foundation plants on the west side entryway. 9 Virburnum added to west side.
11-01-2012
Volunteers begin work on east side entryway. Cleanup, relocation of some foundation plans, planted variegated Liriope in semi-circle. Bromeliads planted within semi-circles on both east and west side. 27 cubic feet of pine bark nuggets added to east and west sides of entryway. The Bromeliads were donated by Donna & Doug Johme. It is unknown whether or not these plants can survive winter without be covered for freezing temperatures. As they were donated the thinking is that if they are lost to frost or lighting conditions that it does not represent a monetary loss to the HOA. Therefore, unused landscaping funds can be used to replace the Bromeliads if they do not survive.
11-05-2012
Added 5 Viburnum and 2 Loropetalum to west side. Treated fireants in the entire front entryway including the roadway.
11-09-2012
Added 2 Viburnum and 2 Loropetalum to east side. Added 2 Loropetalum to the west side. All plantings are now complete for the east and west side entryways of the Greens and only mulching remains to be performed before complete. The only funds spent on plants for the east and west side were for replacing dead/missing foundation plants. Approximately $360 has been spent to date.
12-06-2012
Because of holiday season many plants that are typically available are not as seasonal plants (poinsettias, wreaths, Xmas trees, etc.) are displacing them. Will need to wait until after holidays for more selection to be available. Per Home Depot, Lowes, et al.
01-31-2013
Replaced 2 Viburnum and 1 Loropetalum on the west side. Replaced 5 Loropetalum on the east side. These replacements were made because 8 of the old plants that were relocated did not take to their new location for a variety of reasons. East and west sides each fertilized with 16oz Miracle-Gro LiquaFeed.
